What about solid foods?

Many babies over 6 months of age eat some solid foods (such as cereal or vegetables) in addition to breast milk or formula. MyPyramid assumes that babies over 6 months are getting some solid foods. For babies under 6 months of age, MyPyramid assumes that they are getting little or no solid foods.

The three choices on the entry screen are only about the breast milk or formula you are giving:

  • Choose “Breast milk only, no formula” if you are breastfeeding with no formula, even if you are feeding some solid foods.
  • Choose “At least half breast milk, plus some formula” if you are breastfeeding with some formula, even if you are feeding some solid foods.
  • Choose “Some breast milk, mostly formula” if you are giving mostly formula, even if you are feeding some solid foods.
Your choice should be based on the amount of breast milk and/or formula you are feeding, not considering what solid foods you may also be giving.
